To ensure authentic conversation and respectful interactions, we ask all participants in meetings and discussions sponsored by First United Methodist Church of Seattle to abide by the following guidelines.

1. Approach each conversation with a contemplative, curious spirit and a willingness to have your heart and mind opened to new ways of thinking.

2. Before you speak, examine your own assumptions, thoughts, and emotions.

3. We are all equal partners in the conversation. Be considerate and respectful of others’ beliefs and ideas, and refrain from attempting to rescue, fix, psychoanalyze, or evaluate another person.

4. Be sensitive to differences in communication styles, cultural norms, and comfort levels.

5. Constructive disagreement and differences of opinion are welcome. Personal attacks and deliberately provocative comments are not allowed.

6. There is absolutely no tolerance of racism, sexism, homophobia, profanity, or any form of hate speech. All offensive or threatening comments will be removed, and the participant may be banned from further virtual meetings.
